The current fire station at Fire Square is over 80 years old and no longer meets the requirements. The fire department’s vehicles have become larger over the years, making it impossible for new vehicles to fit in the station. Therefore, the municipality has decided to build a new fire station with supporting facilities.
The new fire station will be located on Burgemeester Des Tombeweg, near the carpool area at the entrance of Abcoude. The building will provide accommodation for the volunteer firefighters and house the fire vehicles. An exercise area will be set up on the outdoor grounds.
The municipality has commissioned the realization of the new fire station through a Design & Build (D&B) agreement. A contractor has been contracted for the construction of the station, who will handle the design, spatial procedures, and construction. The new station will be a modern and sustainable building equipped with solar panels and a heat pump.
