The historic Binnenhof in The Hague will undergo major renovations starting in 2020. A radical job that will take five and a half years. All Chamber residents moved to available government properties in The Hague for that period. This includes sites that are safe, presentable and appropriate for use.
One of these properties concerns Bezuidenhoutseweg 67 in The Hague. It was home to the State Department until mid-2017. The building was remodeled to make it suitable as temporary housing for the House of Representatives. A public entrance was created for the temporary location of the House of Representatives to accommodate the large numbers of visitors properly and safely. This entrance was made on the station side of the building on Bezuidenhoutseweg 67 in The Hague.
Stevens Van Dijck was responsible for design management, management direction and quality inspections. By the summer of 2021, the renovation was complete. After the summer recess, the House of Representatives moved into its new temporary housing.
The State Property Office is the owner of the building and the client for the modifications. Since 2017, a team of architects, technical specialists and consultants have been working on the design and technical development. This was done in intensive consultation with the House of Representatives in order to arrive at a supported plan.
Originally, the plenary chamber of the Senate was to be in the Van Kleffens Room and the plenary chamber of the House of Representatives was to be in the ministry’s shipping room. These plans have changed now that the Senate has temporarily moved to Lange Voorhout 34-36/Kazernestraat in The Hague. The plenary hall of the House of Representatives fits into the Van Kleffens Room in the building at 67 Bezuidenhoutseweg.
