Tilburg City Council is transforming the former Library and City Office 2 building at Koningsplein into the Tilburg City Store. Working together and connecting are central which leads, among other things, to the concentration of official housing in two downtown locations: City Hall and the City Store.
Dating from the 1990s, the building no longer met today’s requirements in terms of functionality, comfort, sustainability and the ability to accommodate modern work concepts.
The municipality of Tilburg sees an important role for itself to set an example in making municipal buildings more sustainable. On July 18, 2016, the council decided to make the municipal property portfolio more sustainable. The ambitions were established in the Roadmap “Towards Sustainable Building Operations. The goal is a good life for now and later by realizing the following ambitions:
– Provide and manage climate neutral buildings, through energy conservation, use of renewable energy sources such as solar and gasless;
– Use environmentally friendly materials and products (Biobased or recycled) so that we reduce environmental impact and prevent resource depletion;
– To provide healthy, safe and pleasant buildings for the users, with the ultimate goal that these buildings are dear to the users;
– Provide future value by being able to adapt buildings over time to changing needs and requirements.
