Zandkasteel Amsterdam

Development

The Sand Castle is one of the largest buildings in Amsterdam and designated as a municipal monument. It is the former ING headquarters and consists of 10 towers arranged in an S-shape and interconnected by an inner street. Wonam has transformed 7 out of the 10 towers into residential buildings with commercial functions on the ground floor.

The organic shapes of the building give each apartment a unique and distinct form. The homes are fully finished with a luxurious kitchen equipped with built-in appliances, modern sanitary facilities, and wall and floor finishes, making them completely ready for use. Stevens Van Dijck was responsible for project management and quality management.

Building function

In Zandkasteel, you’ll find work and meeting spaces, food and beverage facilities, relaxation areas, inner gardens, and a cinema. The unique architecture, nature, urbanity, culture, and top-notch amenities are all combined under one roof.

Details

The transformation has been executed as circularly as possible. Additionally, the building is gas-free and connected to a heat-cold storage system (WKO) and a heat recovery ventilation system (WTW). The artworks specially developed for the Sand Castle have been reinstalled in the voids and courtyards.
