An asset to the city. You could rightly call House on South that. It is being built less than a kilometer southeast of the Erasmus Bridge in Rotterdam, on Laan op Zuid. The multipurpose complex consists of a sports center, swimming pool, catering facilities, bicycle storage and a residential tower with 100 rental apartments. Stevens Van Dijck is providing design management, tendering and management during construction.
House on South is there for schools, associations and individuals. The construction of Huis op Zuid is part of Rotterdam City Council’s investment plans for the renewal of sports facilities.
Koen van Velsen Architects created the design, consisting of many sustainable materials and features to keep energy consumption low. The size of the building plot for the sports complex is very limited. For this reason, the design placed the sports hall above the pool, making this sports complex unique in the Netherlands. Construction began in June 2021.
