The current school building on Princess Margriet Street was outdated and no longer met current user requirements. Together with the municipality, the school and its board decided to construct new buildings for the purpose of the school’s development. The ambition of Gemini College is to develop into a socially entrepreneurial school with the corresponding facilities. The new building can be seen as the engine behind this development and therefore had to be flexible and accommodating. The new complex has access to two gymnasiums to meet the sports needs of education as well.
Stevens Van Dijck was involved as project manager, design manager and executive manager.
Gemini allowed as many people as possible to participate in the new building plans. Such as future users: the students of groups 6, 7 and 8 of Ridderkerk’s public elementary schools, their own students and teachers but also residents.
This project required a zoning amendment. Due to circumstances, a walk-in meeting was not possible. The Municipality of Ridderkerk responded creatively by explaining the plans and procedure in a video, calling on local residents and other interested parties to take note of the plans and express their views on them.
