Marga Klompé Building TiU Tilburg

Development

On Tilburg University’s campus grounds now flaunts the brand new education building, named after the Netherlands’ first female minister, Marga Klompé. This modern building is the answer to the growing student population and changing educational methods.
Located between the Tias Building and Cube, this new icon strengthens the connection between Tilburg University Station, the surrounding neighborhood and the campus. The commitment to enhanced connectivity is embodied by a vibrant plaza being created, complete with a restaurant on the campus side.
Stevens Van Dijck supported the client in project management from the TO phase through to completion. Our work included contract management, quality assurance and commissioning.

Building function

With fourteen lecture halls and a spacious foyer, the Marga Klompé Building can accommodate some 1,000 students, making it perfect for its growing needs. But it goes beyond capacity; it is designed as an inspiring learning and working environment, where both students and staff can thrive optimally.

Details

Sustainability is central to the design of the Marga Klompé Building. Almost completely energy-neutral, the building is powered by solar panels and Heat Cold Storage in the ground. Circularity is also an important aspect, with reusable wooden support structures and natural stone cladding designed with reuse in mind.
The Marga Klompé Building marks an impressive step toward a sustainable and circular future for academic buildings. With its unique emphasis on solid wood panels and demountable beams, this building is a pioneer of sustainability in the Netherlands.
