The municipality of ‘s-Hertogenbosch has a new Theater aan de Parade. The old Theater aan de Parade was in need of renovation. The construction of the new theater was debated for years in the city council. Where should it come, what should it look like and what should it cost? In the end, the decision was made to build on the old site, also mixing parts of the old building with the new one.
Stevens Van Dijck provided the project/design and construction management on behalf of the municipality of ‘s-Hertogenbosch and was responsible for the management during the realization.
The smart and thoughtful design of NOAHH | Network Oriented Architecture allows for broader, more flexible programming. More than just a theater, the new Theater aan de Parade is an accommodation for many encounters, experiences, theater, music, carnival, exhibitions and more. The multifunctional setup offers opportunities for collaborations of many arts and cultural disciplines. The new Theater aan de Parade puts ‘s-Hertogenbosch prominently back on the map as the cultural city of the South.
The building fits well within the environment of the Parade. The building incorporates many smart and sustainable solutions. Such as reusing parts of the construction and materials. The halls are multifunctional. Additional spaces have been created, which can be used flexibly in programming. The basement is connected to the foyer, making this floor truly part of the building. Reuse of the existing basement floor was a tight framework in the design brief. The new theater opened its doors in March 2024 for the 2023/2024 theater season.
