The Laplace building at Eindhoven University of Technology has been renovated. The building dates back to the 1960s and was the old computing center of the TU/e. The building holds significant cultural and architectural value. The ground floor of the building remains mostly intact and will be equipped with classrooms and a gathering area. A new entrance will be created on the south side of the building. The upper floor will be stripped down and fitted with a new facade. Distinctive elements of the facade, such as the balconies with red tube profiles, will be incorporated into the new design.
In this project, Stevens Van Dijck has managed the team members, project managers, inspectors, contractors, and design parties.
After the renovation, the building will be used for education, self-study, and socializing. Additionally, the building will house the EAISI institute, which conducts research on Artificial Intelligence. The new Neuron building has a total gross floor area of approximately 13,000 m².
The new building features a partially elevated roof with a unique wooden structure. The upper floor is connected to the meeting space on the ground floor through an open space. This creates a remarkable sense of space within the building and allows for more natural light on the ground floor. The new atrium roof consists of a visible wooden structure (CLT) and serves as a real eye-catcher.
