The David de Wied building was completed in 2011 and consists largely of laboratories along with office workstations and teaching spaces. The building is currently used by several research groups from the Departments of Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences. One of the research groups (Cryo-electron Microscopy) requires additional technically complex facilities for Electron Microscopy (EM).
Stevens Van Dijck was responsible for management during the execution phase.
The scope of this project involved the realization of a high-end EM facility on the first floor requiring an extension to the David de Wied building. In addition, laboratory facilities were realized for about three research groups that required shifting and thickening of former research groups. Additional workstations were also created in a number of areas in the David de Wied building and general facilities were modified.
In conjunction with the building and expansion, outdoor space amenities that are critical to the operation of the building will also be modified. The building will also be connected to the central CHP system. All this while the building remains in use. In addition, sustainability measures will be taken in the area of fume hoods that will be adapted according to use, and the building will soon receive the BREEAM In Use – Excellent designation.
