Completion of the Theater aan de Parade ‘s-Hertogenbosch

On October 16th, the completion and (key) handover of Theater aan de Parade in ‘s-Hertogenbosch took place. After years of debate within the municipal council regarding the location, design, and budget, a decision was made in the summer of 2018 to build the new theater in its familiar location, in accordance with the existing zoning plan. Elements of the old building were seamlessly integrated into the new design.

What makes this theater particularly special is the clever and thoughtful design by NOAHH | Network Oriented Architecture. This design opens doors to a broader, more flexible programming, transforming the theater into more than just a stage. It will become a vibrant meeting place for theater, music, carnival, exhibitions, and more. The multifunctional layout and separately usable foyers provide space for collaborations between various artistic and cultural disciplines, reaffirming ‘s-Hertogenbosch as a cultural hub in the South.

And that’s not all! The new Theater aan de Parade fits perfectly into the Parade surroundings and incorporates smart and sustainable solutions. This includes the reuse of the existing basement and the main supporting structure of the main hall, the creation of a multifunctional middle hall, additional spaces suitable for flexible programming, and even a basement foyer that spatially integrates with the foyers on the higher floors, making it an integral part of the building.

Stevens Van Dijck had the honor to provide project/design and construction management on behalf of and commissioned by the municipality of ‘s-Hertogenbosch. Throughout the realization phase, we were also responsible for project supervision.

The theater now has the keys to their brand-new location! Currently, there is dedicated work both in front and behind the scenes to prepare for the grand opening in March 2024. However, on Friday, December 8th, the doors opened to the public for the test phase with try-out performances in preparation for the large-scale premiere in early March. The official opening is scheduled for Friday, March 1st, 2024. We are looking forward to it!
