Nij Smellinghe Hospital in Drachten continues to develop. After the successful realization of a temporary pharmacy, a new outpatient clinic and Women’s/Child bed unit, construction continues on as many as seven brand-new ORs, including one modern hybrid version.
Stevens Van Dijck organized and supervised the tender to arrive at a selection of appropriate construction team partners. Thus, the structural contractor and an E and W installer have been contracted. In the construction team phase, Stevens Van Dijck is project manager and supervises the elaboration of the VO to DO, TO and UO. In the fall of 2019, the implementation phase will start in which Stevens Van Dijck will fulfill the role of managing director.
The project will be completed in several phases: The existing ORs will remain in use while the new ORs are built. Once these are complete, the next part of the project will begin, creating the holding, recovery and sterile storage areas in the existing OR complex.
In addition to efficient phasing, applying state-of-the-art technologies and safely navigating the corona perils, much emphasis is placed on circularity and sustainability. Through intensive tracking of all materials removed from the existing building and those used in new construction, no materials are lost now or in the future. For the future, all applied materials are stored in the materials passport “Madaster. Everything that can be reused can be found in the new and improved Nij Smellinghe. When materials are harvested, it is assessed whether the material in question can be reused within the project, in a future project within Nij Smellinghe, offered for reuse by third parties or disposed of and recycled for another application.
