Musis Sacrum Arnhem

Development

The Musis Sacrum has been completely renovated/renovated. The entire remodeling/renovation took 2.5 years. Much of it was demolished and in its place was a piece of new construction. This drastic change allows for full enjoyment again. The grand (re)opening took place in January 2018.

Commissioned by the Municipality of Arnhem, Stevens Van Dijck provided process monitoring and quality control during the engineering and realization phases.
An important spearhead for Stevens Van Dijck is to deliver added (more) value. Added value that leads to a better building for the client and user. We are therefore particularly proud of the fact that the Musis Sacrum is the winner in the Identity & Iconic Value category (BNA Best Building of the Year 2018). The result of optimal and special cooperation with all parties involved.

Building function

In van Dongen-Koschuch’s design, the multifunctionality and acoustics of the halls were identified as priorities. The Musis Sacrum has therefore been made suitable for a very wide range of performances and events. From classical music to pop music.

The project team developed the project into final design (DO+), after which it was tendered under UAV-gc. In mid-May 2015, the contractor was contracted to develop it into a construction-ready design. Demolition, renovation and new construction began in September 2015.

Details

After the new building was inaugurated in May 2017, work began on renovating the old Classical Muses Hall. A special feature of the renovation of the historic concert hall was to remove the stage extension from the 1980s. By inserting high windows in the new facade (behind the stage), views to the outside have been created here as well. Again, the daylight connection to the stage and auditorium is spectacular and unique. Furthermore, both halls are now multifunctional.
