The new building for Geosciences was completed in early 2018. The building is on the Uithof campus grounds; next to the GML (Joint Environmental Laboratory) and a TNO building. It is part of UU’s Northwest cluster. In addition to office spaces, the building also houses a restaurant, an espresso bar and bicycle storage.
Stevens Van Dijck was responsible for the management of this project, in addition, we were involved as project manager for the tendering and supervision of the permanent interior. The office building was completed in early 2018. Stevens Van Dijck was also responsible for the management of the GML completed in December 2013 and the Victor J. Koningsberger Building completed in August 2015 on behalf of the University.
The design for Geosciences was created by the architectural firm Inbo. The new office forms a trinity together with the GML and the TNO building. The buildings share a common entrance area and use each other’s spaces.
Matching our client’s sustainability ambition, the end result is a sustainable building with a BREEAM Excellent score. To this end, various sustainability measures were applied, including a thermal storage system with heat pumps (shared with the GML), a high insulation value for the facades and roof and application of LED lighting.
