Meet Jorrit

Freshly graduated from the Technical University in Eindhoven, the world is at your feet. Which company do you choose then? This was the choice Jorrit van Beurden faced some time ago. He has now been working at Stevens Van Dijck for six months. What is his impression of our organization, and how has it been so far?

Jorrit completed his master’s degree in Urban Systems and Real Estate and works as a junior project manager.

“Of course, it’s an adjustment: from student life to a full-time job. But the work atmosphere here is good. Everyone is cheerful, and you can always ask questions. There’s an onboarding plan, so you get to know your colleagues. And you immediately start working on projects. In the beginning, you mainly support the other project managers. But step by step, you get more responsibilities. Without feeling like you have to solve everything on your own. There’s always someone nearby to brainstorm with or to help you. That made me feel like a part of the company right away.”

The work I do now…

“Is very varied. It has its ups and downs. Sometimes I travel across the country all day and get home late. Other times it’s quieter, and I’m mainly in the office working on calculations and reports, for example. That diversity makes it fun for me. I like experiencing all aspects of construction, and that’s possible here. This way, I learn in every area.”

My colleagues are…

“The projects are exciting, and the people are great. You can tell that everyone who works here is passionate about their job. They bring out the best in the projects they work on. And you can also see that everyone really enjoys their work. I’ve never met anyone here with a sullen face. That is very motivating.”

I am proud of…

Jorrit: “I started my job at Stevens Van Dijck with no prior experience. Construction project management appealed to me, and I wanted to find out what it was really like. We work on hospitals, universities, large and complex projects, but also on smaller ones or as advisors on the sidelines of a project. All those facets interest me, especially because of the variety. No day here is the same. And that makes me proud: that I could start working at such an interesting company.”

In five years…

“I will have grown further at Stevens Van Dijck. I enjoy working here. Do I have dream projects? You probably know that show on Discovery Channel that features mega construction projects. I used to watch it when I was younger. That’s where my interest in construction started. So, if I could be involved in such a large construction project from start to finish, that would be great.”
